Smith's Laminating Shop Inc. Becomes Certified Participant in National Quality Certification Program
Smith's Laminating Shop Inc. of Louisville Kentucky has been named a Certified Participant in the Architectural Woodwork Institute's Quality Certification Program. This nationwide program evaluates woodworking firms in a variety of ways before naming them Certified Participants.
The criteria and tests for the Certified Participant status include: (1) completing a written examination demonstrating evidence of understanding of the current edition of the Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards, published by the Architectural Woodwork Institute; (2) documentation of performance, showing the ability to produce work meeting the AWI grades and the submission of at least ten letters of reference: plant visits by Quality Certification Program representatives in which the products and shop drawings are inspected to verify eligibility; and inspection of samples and previously completed work. Smith's Laminating was able to meet all the requirements for this status.
As a result of this status, Smith's Laminating is now certified by the Architectural Woodwork Institute as qualified to manufacture AWI Quality Certification Program projects and certify that the work has been manufactured in accordance with AWI Quality Standards.
The Architectural Woodwork Institute is a trade association representing custom architectural woodwork manufacturers, their suppliers and related professionals in the U.S. and Canada. Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards, published by the Architectural Woodwork Institute and now in it's 7th edition, provides the standards for three levels of quality for interior architectural woodwork: Premium, Custom, and Economy. The AWI Quality Certification Program was established to raise and maintain the professional standards in the architectural woodwork industry through a program of professional development.
